Hi, I currently own the SparkFun Pulsed Coherent Radar Sensor – Acconeer XM125 (60 GHz, Qwiic), and I am considering using it for a university engineering project focused on radar signal processing and embedded systems.
My main goal is to develop and implement my own signal processing algorithms rather than relying on the sensor’s built-in detection functions.
I would appreciate some clarification on the following questions:
-
Access to radar data: Is it possible to access raw or complex IQ radar data from the XM125 and transfer it to a computer for processing in Python? If so, what firmware, software, and communication interface would you recommend?
-
Distance and velocity estimation: Can I use the available radar data to implement my own algorithms for estimating the distance and radial velocity of moving objects, for example using FFT, phase analysis, or Doppler processing?
-
Additional signal processing: What other radar signal processing applications would be feasible with this sensor, such as motion detection, object tracking, filtering, or classification of different movements?
-
ESP32 integration: I also have an ESP32-C3 development board. Is it possible to connect the XM125 to the ESP32 and access radar measurement data for custom processing?
-
Hardware limitations: Are there any important limitations regarding sampling rate, data bandwidth, or firmware that I should consider before choosing this sensor for my project?
Best regards
